Uncle Howie RIP

14 Apr 2010

If you’ve been on your underground hip hop over the past 10 years you’ll know about the likes of Necro, Ill Bill and the rest of the psychological records fam.

Sadly, Uncle Howie, the dude getting wrecked in Necro’s Gory Days dvd and on the Front cover of the I need drugs album, passed away around 2 weeks ago.

“UNCLE HOWIE JUST PASSED AWAY – REST IN PEACE HOWIE – I LOVE YOU!!!!! – I WAS GONNA GO SEE HIM TONIGHT WITH HYDE AND CARBONE – AND I CANT BELIEVE HE IS GONE NOW – FINALLY WITH MY GRANDMOTHER RE-UNITED!!! – I GO SEE HIM NOW STILL – UNCLE HOWIE FOREVER!!! R.I.P”

From Necro’s Facebook

Uncle Howie was often sampled in many of their tracks and made many appearances in their RAW video footage that’s been floating about over the years and of course Bill’s label named after his uncle – Uncle Howie Records

Ill Bill also dedicates an entire track to his uncle on the hard hitting “Hour of Repraisal” album.

REST IN PEACE HOWARD TENENBAUM

One sick documentary on last night, on believe it or not – BBC4!?? Just incase any of you missed it I thought I’d throw it back at you.

turbulence

Heres the description from the bbc site:

On an island where reggae is considered the voice of the people and an outlet for survival, Rise Up Reggae Star follows three aspiring artists who seek to ‘rise up’ from obscurity for their chance at success. This documentary takes the viewer off the beaten path far from any tourist attractions and sandy beaches, yet it is still able to capture the beauty and magic that the Island has to offer. From the deep countryside to the whirlwind ghettos of Kingston, no matter where you are, the film makes it evident that music is the heartbeat of the culture.

In a society where talent abounds and opportunity is scarce, Rise Up follows the very different lives of three artists struggling in their own unique way for their big break at stardom. Turbulence, the conscious ghetto youth with enough determination to move mountains; Ice, the young faux-gangster dancehall artist from the upper class; and Kemoy, the beautifully innocent country girl who barely realizes her amazing vocal gifts – their stories unfold as the film seamlessly interweaves their lives behind the backdrop of the bustling underground reggae scene of Jamaica. Five years in the making, Rise Up is able to capture the pure artistry and creativity of these three musicians in raw form while at the same time, able to bring the viewer into their personal lives, inside their most private moments, as they struggle to find their voice and discover their ability to overcome life’s obstacles.

A magazine born out of love and passion for graffiti in london…

ktf-front

Highly-publicised cases against some of London’s most prolific crews and writers over the last few years, and the techniques used by the authorities to bring them down has brought about a general feeling of fear and apprehension amongst a large portion of London’s graffiti exponents. This coupled with the deaths of some the scene’s most beloved and active writers meant there was a real need to lift the spirits of those closest to the scene, friends, family, associates… to help Keep The Faith.
