Last night I went to Fresh Cuts Live at The Roundhouse in Camden.

First of all, big up DJ DeeKay and the rest of  the Roundhouse Radio crew for putting on a really sick night. Not forgetting the sponsors of the night, my lovely Boxfresh crew. It was one of those nights where I was sat at home covered in a blanket, watching Sex and The City thinking, “Hmmm shall I go or shall I just stay here where there’s food and warmth?” And let me just say, I am SO GLAD I went. It was a hype!

There were live performances from North London grime crew Marvell, UK RnB vocalist McLean and finally my new favourite singer in the whole wide world, Bluey Robinson. It was a really good night – nice vibes, nice people but most importantly, brilliant music. Particularly where Bluey Robinson is concerned.

The best thing about this entire event was the fact that all of the artists performed with live bands. I don’t know about you lot but I haven’t seen a live performance for so long – and I’m not talking about a crappy PA, via a shegged sound system, with a backing track. I mean real music played by real musicians and tracks performed with that. Yesterday reminded me how utterly breath taking this can be and for three hours of last night, electronic computer-based music became just a distant echo in the back of my mind.

Marvell’s performance was very refreshing in terms of grime music. They performed with the live band which made their performance even more comment worthy. Where ‘grime’ is concerned, it’s not often we get to see any performances done with instruments. I imagine it’s not the easiest thing to do considering at most grime raves it’s a DJ/PA CD set up, but Marvell actually pulled it off – and they did it really well. And also, DOUBLE S CAN SING! I was really impressed! They performed songs from their brilliant mixtape Marvell FM 3 which you can download here. UK RnB act McLean (aka Digga) performed 3 tracks off his debut album. He kicked off his part of the show with his most well known song, Broken (it was emotional – I sang EVERY. lAST. SYLLABLE.) and finished with his current single My Name.

The final performance of the evening however, was the highlight of my week. And I’ve had a great week. I don’t think any kind of introduction can do this young man justice but this guy here…

…IS A GENIUS.

BLUEY BUMBACLART ROBINSON. WOW. The talent that this young man has is actually inspiring. I’d seen the infamous youtube videos of him serenading gloomy TFL users and his talent was undeniable even then, HOWEVER (and I fully acknowledge that I might be late on this one), his live performances are on another level. I was blown away. All I’m going to say about this young man is that if he doesn’t become an international superstar, then there is no justice in the world of music. He has EVERYTHING going for him; good looks, charisma, charm, moves, amazing writing skills and above all, Bluey has one of those voices that tugs at your heart strings and makes you slightly fall in love with him with every note he hits.

SAY.

NO.

MORE.

*Sigh*
