Interview with Teddy AKA Silencer

May 18 2010 // DJ-Cable // Blog

Teddy & G.Tank Present - Ghanaian Fire

We’re just under halfway through 2010, and the Grime scene is in great shape. With the last 6-12 months seeing a resurgence in instrumental releases, we thought we’d shine the spotlight on one of he scene’s leading producers – Teddy aka Silencer.

Self dubbed as “Grime’s important producer”, he’s worked a slew of top MCs, has a back catalogue full of bangers, has a show on Rinse FM, and is now making moves with up-and-coming producer G.Tank. We quickly chat to him about his forthcoming release, “Ghanian Fire”

Tell us a bit about your background. How did you get into DJ-ing and production? Who/what influenced you?

Well I personally think it started from school youth clubs. Everyone used to do music and I really wanted to be a part of it because I enjoyed what was being played (Old School Garage). I started writing lyrics before everything, then I decided to start mixing records because that was where my heart was, and now I’m producing music.

Any particular DJs or tunes?

I used to listen to Virgo, Swizz Beatz and Rapid; I used to look up to them a lot. The DJs I used to love listening to were DJ EZ, DJ Begg and Flippy Smalls

You currently DJ on leading pirate station Rinse FM. What do you enjoy most about spinning on radio?

It’s a great feeling. Knowing that hundreds and thousands of people are listening to your performance is amazing. I enjoying interacting with my fans and trying my best to keep them entertained at all times throughout the two hours.

What do you use to produce music?

I’m currently using FLSTUDIO 9 (Fruityloops 9)

The UK scene as a whole is thriving right now, especially the Grime scene. Which artists/producers/DJs are you currently rating?

P Money, Ghetts, Tempz, Skepta & Chipmunk. Those are all my favourite artists right now.

You’ve also worked with some of the scene’s best MCs such as Tempz, B Live, Skepta & O.G’z. Who else would you like to work with, given the opportunity?

Wiley, Chipmunk, Tinie Tempah, Dizzee Rascal and many more, but they are the first that i am wanting to work with.

You’ve recently released the “Lunch Box” EP with G.Tank, which has received a lot of positive reviews and support from numerous DJs. Tell us a little bit about your upcoming release, “Ghanaian Fire”.

Well I was working with an up and coming producer G.Tank, and I realised we both have crazy potential to make something sick if we merged together 13 tracks, so we sat down and spoke about it and came to a decision that we bring together some music to create that Ghanaian fire, so you know :-D

Bit of a random one – We’re all massive gamers over here at Hot One Ten. Which video games are you playing at the moment?

Xbox 360 – FIFA 2010 (Pro Evolution Soccer is crap lol) Super Street Fighter 4, Fight Night round 4, Call Of Duty, 007, Tekken 6; I’ve got every sick game there can be, bring it on lol!

Lastly, what else can we expect from Teddy/Silencer in 2010?

My new website (www.teddymusic.co.uk) Coming Very Soon!

Also, Ghanaian Fire – out June 7th 2010. Wow Bass Level 3 & 4 and “Teddy Presents – Run The CD Again!” coming soon.

Big up everyone that has been supporting myself, G.Tank and the underground unit it is much appreciated.

DJ Cable Vs. Joker & Ginz Vs. Three 6 Mafia “Stay Fly in Purple City” (Thugstep Quick Hitter)

Apr 23 2010 // DJ-Cable // Blog

It’s been a while since I posted another Thugstep blend. Massive thanks to everyone who’s been supporting them, whether it’s playing them at raves, on radio, or on you iPods… It means a lot.

DOWNLOAD

This was originally done as a mashup for my BBC 1Xtra Guest Mix for Mistajam back in February. I figured that it worked so well, I though I’d make it into a proper blend. I’ve called it a quick hitter as it’s only the first verse and chorus; the reason being that the rest of the acapella doesn’t fit so well with the whole tune. Also, like myself, most DJs like to mix quickly, so it’s always nice to have something short and sweet with a clean intro and outro.

Let me know what you think!

P.S. This will also feature on “Fuck Thugstep Vol. 2″, which is coming soon!
