We catch up with the latest additions to the Hot One Ten family, graffiti crew RT London…

122

On the verge of a major European tour, we catch up with the crew to find out more about their background and what we can expect from them on the forthcoming column

Tell us about the crew, when was it formed?

RT crew is 10 years old and consists of 12+ Writers residing in East and West parts of London.

In 2008 you were ranked 5th in the world and last year you went on to take the number 1 spot at the European Write 4 Gold graffiti championships, how does it feel to put London on the map globally?

Write4gold is an amazing experience and we have really dedicated ourselves to putting our city on the map internationally. There was a lot of travelling and good times along the way but also there were times of real pressure and anxiety. Individually and as a crew we have never really won anything before, so when we did we were so surprised and W4G is always followed by some kind of after party, even if we have to create it ourselves! Shout to the W4G team and all our competitors along the way.

You go under the name ‘RepresenT London’ how has the city itself influenced you?

RepresenT is a name for RT that towns came up with and merged it with our city. Were just another story in the big smoke….plenty of influence and mad people around! Havnt got time to go into everything.

You represent a range of styles - from character painters to traditional wild styles…Tell us more about your styles and influences….

The versatility of style and influences is important for us, we all like something different but at the same time are open minded about style and techniques. We try to keep it tight with real letter forms but add our own personality to it. This is evident in our graff, we follow the international scene closely to keep the vision fresh and keep our work evolving.

I think if we were all doing the same style we could pull off more textbook walls but we want to keep the balance of fun, dedication and development. Organisation and documentation is key for us and it takes a lot of work to maintain all our members. But we couldn’t make this work without the variety of skilled people in the crew, everyone has a job to do. We bounce styles and tech between us and move on.

We’ve recently seen a redesign to the existing website, the introduction of a shop so people can buy your work, tell us a bit about the shop and are there any other developments in the pipeline?

Yeah the shop and events section has just launched, the majority of RT sell work individually though different outlets under different names so it was time to bring everybody together and support ourselves officially. The RepresenT shop will be regularly maintained with new exclusive Prints, Canvas and Clothing from all the RT members. The variety of artists and mediums will be something to lookout for, vibes and choe have fresh material on the way. We have some nice Clothing collaborations in the pipeline too so stay locked for updates.

You recently teamed up with Hot One Ten’s Chris Read to produce a series of exclusive videos for Molotow tell us more about this…

Yes Towns has recently made a 4 part series for molotow.tv, the reason for this was to step into a visual/audio promotion format that hasn’t really been done with any spray paint brand before on this level.

RT will be working with Chris Read lots more this year - Towns was also a big part of co-producing these videos and should be more to come in the near future.
