Mixing Records is known for being the home/birthplace of Dubstep…But…That was under its previous name Big Apple Records…

Mixing Records as it is now known is run by infamous Grime producer/DJ, J-Sweet (J). J took over the store in the transitional stage of Dubstep when the sound began to take over the London dance floors, so the store’s roots are still firmly planted in the sound - that and the fact it’s in Croydon have alot to to with this.
During the Grime boom years however the store was like a 2nd mecca after Rhythm Division in Bow (Next Months article) for Grime, mainly down to J’s takeover.
Although currently in this hard time for Grime with less and less Vinyl releases whilst this section of the store has taken a noticeable knock it’s still a cut above the rest for Grime.

The store can boast to having a trainer store also which is pretty upfront (well it was when I last visited) and people who know the sounds they sell… Unlike some stores if they dont know what tune your talking about I’m sure someone in there will know and will be able to tell you all you need to know.

I wouldn’t say this store has as much Heritage/Experience as BM-Soho (mainly due to the name change) and it not having the same aura about it. However it’s a decent store with a knowledgeable set of staff.

The store now sell
>Dubstep
>Funky
>Grime
>House
>UKG
>Clothing and DJ Accesories (Record Bags etc no hardware)

If you’re in the Croydon area make sure you get yourself down to the store and check out what they’ve got going on, even if it’s just for a fresh set of kicks.
